Als ich den Namen im Fr\u00fchjahr zum ersten Mal bewusst h\u00f6rte und las, habe ich ihn zugegebenerma\u00dfen nicht direkt mit <strong>This town needs guns<\/strong> in Verbindung gebracht. Warum auch? Das aktuelle Album <em>13.0.0.0.0<\/em> der Engl\u00e4nder ist noch mit <strong>This town needs guns<\/strong> bezeichnet. Also warum hat die Band ihren Namen ge\u00e4ndert? Waren es kleine pazifistische Gr\u00fcnde, die sie dazu bewogen haben oder gefiel er ihnen nur nicht mehr?<br>Auf ihrer tumblr Seite entdeckte ich dazu folgendes Statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d also like you to know that my personal want to move away from the full name is completely abstract from any current events or social pressures of political correctness. When the boys asked me if I would consider joining the band, the name made it very difficult for me. I eventually got perspective and realised that the opportunity to work with such amazing musicians was way more important than my dislike of a silly band name. It wasn\u2019t until in the band that the gravity of the name became more obvious, and that it wasn\u2019t just a silly band name. With stories of people being on the receiving end of abuse for wearing the band\u2019s t-shirts, the importance of context on the name was clear &#8211; without the knowledge that it was the name of a band, the statement \u2018this town needs guns\u2019 is left to be taken literally. As we continue promoting the bands music, the name is going to find itself in more and more places without this qualifying context to excuse it.<br>I am an adamant pacifist and the idea of guns and indeed any form of violence turns my stomach. The idea of attaching myself to such a statement, that can so readily be taken out of context, and irony overlooked, has felt like a real compromise on my integrity.<br>Anyways, we are not violent people, we don\u2019t make violent music, why should we have a violent name? I often wonder how many people have been put off listening to the band assuming that the music is really heavy.<br>So why not change to a completely new name all together? Because we\u2019re still the same band. We still play old songs and want to continue doing so. Sure the band\u2019s evolved since the last release, but TTNG has always been in a state of flux throughout the bands history. In fact, on the album \u2018Animals\u2019, for which the band is most known, Stu was the only original member. So that\u2019s it, we\u2019re still the same band, we\u2019re just moving forwards. Changing the name all together would sever the link between the old material and the new and remove it from being seen as the progression that it is as a whole body of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TTNG <\/strong>dann also. <br>Das Trio aus Oxford macht das, was man gemeinhin als Math Rock bezeichnet. Ihr S\u00e4nger ist neu, lese ich heute Morgen, seit einem knappen Jahr ist <strong>Henry Tremain<\/strong> erst mit dabei. \u00dcberdies erfuhr die Band in letzter Zeit einige Umbesetzungen, so dass sich zum aktuellen Album <em>13.0.0.0.0<\/em> quasi eine ganz neue Band formierte. <strong>TTNG <\/strong>selbst merke ich das nicht wirklich an, sie wirken so, als ob sie schon ewig zusammen seien. <strong>Henry Tremain<\/strong> f\u00fchrt launisch witzig durch den Abend und schafft es immer wieder, seine Kollegen und den viel zu wenigen Leuten im Bahnhof Langendreer, ein L\u00e4cheln und Grinsen abzuringen. Grundsympathisch scheint dieser Kerl. Wie die anderen <strong>TTNG<\/strong>\u2019s \u00fcbrigens auch. <strong>Tim <\/strong>und <strong>Chris Collins<\/strong> sind dabei so unscheinbar pr\u00e4sent, dass ihr famoses Instrumentenspiel \u00fcberhaupt nicht auff\u00e4llt. Es wirkt beil\u00e4ufig, aber es ist so perfekt, wie es die Genrerichtung Mathrock ben\u00f6tigt. Die 90 Grad Kurven im Gitarrenspiel, der dezent treibende Schlagzeugwumms. Alles sitzt und passt. Und immer schwingt ein bisschen Selbstironie mit. Das ist gut, Menschen sollten sich eh nicht f\u00fcr zu wichtig nehmen. <br>Musikalisch kann f\u00fcr mich nichts mehr schiefgehen, als sie im zweiten Song direkt \u201eChinchilla\u201c von ihrem Tieralbum <em>Animals <\/em>spielten. Es ist einer meiner Lieblingssongs des Albums, passte. So macht sich sehr schnell eine sch\u00f6ne Gem\u00fctlichkeit und Aufgehoben breit, die nicht wirklich jeder Konzertabend mit sich bringt. Und das liegt vor allem an <strong>TTNG<\/strong>. Aber auch an <strong>Mylets<\/strong>, dem Vorgruppenk\u00fcnstler und dem gem\u00fctlichen Studio im Bahnhof Langendreer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Als ich gegen 19 Uhr nach Bochum fuhr, hatte ich eigentlich gar keine Lust. So kam ich denn auch so sp\u00e4t wie m\u00f6glich los, um blo\u00df nicht zu lange rumstehen und auf <strong>TTNG <\/strong>warten zu m\u00fcssen. F\u00fcr 20 Uhr war das Vorprogramm angesetzt, um halb neun war ich am Opelwerk in Langendreer. Perfekt, denke ich, als ich den Fu\u00dfweg herab zum Kulturbahnhof stiefele. Die Vorgruppe, die mir nichts sagte, und die ich mir vorher nicht angeh\u00f6rt hatte, sollte fast durch sein.<br>Als ich dann den Saal betrete, f\u00e4ngt <strong>Mylets <\/strong>jedoch gerade erst an. Warum ich mich jedoch dar\u00fcber keine Sekunde ge\u00e4rgert habe, ist schnell erkl\u00e4rt. Der Solok\u00fcnstler, der jede Tonspur mit Loopskrams und feinen Fussfertigkeiten selbst einspielt, ist grandios. &#8218;Meine Drum-Machine ist gestern kaputt gegangen, ich muss also heute etwas improvisieren.&#8216; Aha. &#8218;Wie sieht es dann aus, wenn du nicht improvisieren musst?&#8216; denke ich nach einer halben Stunde. <strong>Henry Kohen<\/strong>, so sein b\u00fcrgerlicher Name, hatte mich da mit seiner Mischung aus <strong>Ben Lee<\/strong> und <strong>Kleenax Girl Wonder<\/strong> bereits voll gepackt. 3 EPs hat er bisher ver\u00f6ffentlicht, ich brauche sie alle. Mensch, dieser Kerl hat es drauf, nur mit seiner Gitarre und ein paar Pedalen eine Atmosph\u00e4re zu schaffen, die einen v\u00f6llig vereinnahmt. Da kann die Drum-Machine noch so kaputt sein.<br>Manchmal denke ich ja, dieses Loop Ding sei vorbei. Nachdem ich <strong>Liam Finn <\/strong>vor einigen Jahren gesehen hatte, dachte ich alles in Sachen Loop gesehen zu haben. Aber dieser <strong>Mylets <\/strong>legt nochmals eine Sch\u00fcppe drauf. Das war famos und <strong>Mylets <\/strong>einer der besten Abender\u00f6ffner des Jahres.<br>Die Show von <strong>TTNG <\/strong>verfolgt er am Rand stehend. Als er vor der Zugabe gefragt wurde, welches <strong>TTNG <\/strong>Lied er den spielen k\u00f6nnen, z\u00e4hlt er erst \u201e26 is dancier than 4\u201c und anschlie\u00dfend &#8218;und nat\u00fcrlich dieses nananad\u00fcd\u00fcd\u00fc auf.&#8216; Beide Songs passen <strong>TTNG <\/strong>aber nicht ins Konzept (&#8218;Das eine haben wir schon gespielt, Henry.&#8216;). Nach kurzer Diskussion einigt man sich auf ein lautes Finale. Und sie beugen sich damit dem Druck der dritten Reihe (die ersten beiden waren leer), die lieber das laute St\u00fcck h\u00f6ren wollen als das gem\u00fctlich-sanft ruhige. Mit viel unn\u00f6tiger Bescheidenheit erkl\u00e4rt <strong>Henry Tremain<\/strong>, dass sie es lange nicht ge\u00fcbt h\u00e4tten und ob wir wirklich mit einem desolaten Sounderlebnis das Konzert verlassen wollen. Wir wollten. Es wird aber nicht so schlimm wie angedeutet.
